Best time to travel
The Kinnaur and Spiti circuit is best traveled between late May and early October, when both the Manali and Shimla access routes are open. The ideal time is from June to September.
Summer (June): All roads are typically open, including the high-altitude passes and Chandratal Lake. The weather is pleasant for outdoor activities.
Monsoon (July–September): Spiti is a rain-shadow region and remains relatively dry, but the access roads in Kinnaur are prone to landslides. The Shimla-Kinnaur route is generally safer during this season.
Winter (October–May): Heavy snowfall blocks the Manali-Kaza road and Kunzum Pass, making the circuit inaccessible. Only the Shimla-Kinnaur road remains open, and the route is covered in snow.

- Morning after breakfast visiting Indian Institute of Advanced Studies.
- Jakho temple, Christ Church, The Ridge, The Mall.

- Morning after breakfast drive from Shimla Sarahan enroute visiting Sun temple at Nirath and Rampur.

- Morning visit the Ki monastery, 12 kms from Kaza. This centuries – old gompa is a labyrinth of rooms and corridors – and at one time also acted as a fort.
- It houses valuable Thangkas and offers a panoramic view of the area.
- Also visit the small gompa at Kibber, 9 kms further ahead.
- Kibber at 4205 m has the distinction of being the highest permanently inhabited village of the region.
